I took off word verification after Bl*gger put that annoying two word form up, but since then I've started getting spam comments so I've put it back in place. Sorry folks.
Edited 03.03.2012: Okay, I'm trying it the way some have suggested in the comments below and removing the word verification once again. I have to admit I can't read the darned things myself. But no more anonymous comments.

So sorry you've been targeted hard by the spammers. We get the occasional anonymous comment, but blogger usually picks it up in the spam filter, so we can delete it before it ever gets posted to the blog. We'll keep following along with you and hope for the best. Thanks for sharing. You've been at this a long time, and I like to see you take on things.
That should have read "I like to see your take on things." Otherwise, it makes it sound different than my intent. Thanks.
I have never had any moderation and have only gotten one comment spammed, and it was from Russ. I don't understand why that has happened to you.
sorry kiddo. I always moderate my comments so that when the death threats from PPB's female come in, I can just delete them. But I do understand....errrrrrr Blogger is the devil
I've had it turned off for months, ask for moderation on posts over 14 days old and got almost no spam.
Last week I started allowing anonymous comments, I've had 6 spam comments.
So, no more anonymous comments but still no word verification either.
I've been monitoring the spam comments I've been receiving ... and there's been an increase since I removed the Captcha words; the good news ... all were caught by the spam filter ... a great improvement over the past when most were getting through. Though I continue to be irritated by spammers, I'm going to leave the word verification off ... but if those comments start getting through the filter again, then all bets are off.
