I had my brother over for dinner tonight as he needed to sign some official documents for me. I mentioned that his daughter (my niece) was coming over tomorrow to pick up Mom's recipes and OMG! I WAS GIVING MOM'S RECIPES TO ELAINE????????
So tonight I am scanning recipe cards into the computer so that any and all family members who want Grandma's recipes can have a copy. *sigh* I did not need this extra work.
Apparently we're not going to fight over the antiques but over recipes. I have a feeling I'll be pulling my hair out over this estate stuff before the end of summer. I wish Mom had sold it all and taken a month long trip to Las Vegas on the proceeds. We both would have been happier in the long run.
Don't mind me, I'm still fighting this crappy cold/cough/flu/whatever the heck I have and I'm incredibly grumpy about it.
Is it Spring yet?

Excuse me, and I don't mean to be rude or step out of line, but isn't it a bit soon to be picking up ANYTHING of your Mother's? Having been through this - I think there is an etiquette of a grace period when it is appropriate to do something like this. Sorry, perhaps I am wrong - but I think she can wait a bit - I seriously doubt she is dire need of Grandma's brisket recipe tomorrow.
I don't know..that is just me, but I think you need a little bit of time Linda. Please get to a doctor if you don't feel better soon and don't work so hard to please everyone else, okay?
G'night. Sleep well.
I am with you. Sometimes I think it would be easier for people to sell out and live well than hold it for future generations.
SkippyMom, Actually my niece wanted to be "keeper of Grandma's recipes", making sure someone kept those beloved, stained 3x5 cards in the family. Mom kept her favorites clipped to her stove with magnetic clips for quick and easy reference, so Elaine got the magnetic clips too, and she was thrilled. Me? I've been using Mom's recipes for years. Someday I'll share her Danish Puff that was our Christmas tradition.
