Water gushes from the canyon walls in the Thousand Springs area just east of Hagerman, ID. The water comes from an underground aquifer in the Snake River basin and geologists estimate that the aquifer contains enough water to cover the entire state of Idaho in 1 1/2 inches of water. According to the tourist brochure, the emmigrants passing through noted in their journals how frustrating it was to see the fresh spring water and yet be unable reach it as the canyon walls are right above the Snake River. Posted by Picasa
