Geocaching in St. David

After our morning jaunt to Tombstone we figured we might as well hit a couple of geocaches that were along Hwy. 80 on our return to our campground. The most interesting one was the "When the Saints Go Marching In" cache located on the grounds of the Holy Trinity Monastery.

The picture above is the 70 foot tall Shrine of the True Cross, which has a relic of the True Cross displayed within the base of the monument.

Established in 1974 by the Olivetan Benedictines, the Holy Trinity Monastery is a quiet complex of buildings, a RV Park, a meditation garden and a bird sanctuary trail sitting on 132 acres. The monastery offers retreats to the public, which offer the monastic exercises of silence, solitude, simple living, community and personal prayer.

After locating the cache, Denny and I wandered the grounds, stopping at the Thrift Store for some paperback books and at the Book Store for fresh pecans that are harvested from their own orchards. This is a very peaceful place and worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.
