We're up and running in Sequim, no problem with trees. Hit some rain through Tacoma and up Rt. 3, but nothing major. Just enough to dirty up the truck and rig.
We got settled in and set up, ate lunch, had a brief siesta and decided to go out for pizza. On the way we passed a visitors' center with totem poles, a casino with lots of totem poles, a creek with a cute name and a meadow with ten elk laying down. This is why I say, never forget your camera. It's obvious that this is going to be an area of photo ops, so I'm going to have to remember to take it with me every time I walk out the door. I have to get snaps of the totem poles, the creek name (I'll post it here when I get the photo) and hopefully a shot of elk as they must be around a lot if the elk crossing signs are an indication. I could have a great collection of those yellow diamond shaped crossing signs if I had started taking pix years ago; tractor crossings, snowmobile crossings, horses, turtles, ducks, dragons (got the picture of that one!) elk, moose, bear, horse & buggy, horse and rider, donkeys, bison...well, you get the idea. If it can cross the road, we've seen a sign for it.
We were looking for a specific pizza joint that was listed on the Google maps, but it turns out it's been bought out and renamed to the Tailgate Pizza Co. The owner came over and introduced himself and told us that he had just bought the place and was very proud of the fact that all the pizza dough was made from scratch and the ingredients freshly sliced. The salad bar was excellent and very clean and the pizza was indeed very good so we would recommend it. They had the regular red sauce pizza, but also ranch, herb and garlic, alfredo and one other white sauce if you are adventurous. So if you're anywhere near Sequim, Tailergate Pizza Co. is in the 900 block of E. Washington in the QFC shopping center. And that's my plug for the day. The owner spent some time talking to us, telling us about good places to visit in the area and when we mentioned we were thinking about taking the ferry to Victoria he told us a couple of good places to see while we are there. I must say, the people in Washington have all been very friendly and are anxious to share information about things to see and do in their state. We are becoming very enamored with Washington!
